On today's Graham Norton show, the music portion featured a country song, but in spite of that, I stuck around to see what the drummer did. In one of those "to my surprise" moments, he was doing a train beat during the chorus. I guess the surprise was that I didn't expect the recognition to come so easily, even if I've been studying the basics of drumming for more than a year. Hey, I've learned something!
If there's one thing I wish I'd understood before beginning drum lessons at age 66, it was this: "Don't aim for mastery -- aim for curiosity." I've been enjoying myself ever since.
