Progress: can now play a satisfactory half-time shuffle, after watching the Drumeo Workout dedicated to it. This is what I got into drumming to learn. It'll take time, but I can see a path to learning a simplified Purdie Shuffle. Maybe even a moderately complicated one.
I don't need to know songs beyond my current 120-130 bpm capability. I recently re-listened to an album I first heard 50 years ago, Birds of Fire, and remembered some of it (like how a couple of songs were cut in two on the 8-track). I'd forgotten the five-minute drum solo, and grimaced at it today. Speed and power, taking the spotlight -- not interesting, not interested. Precise groove, brisk timekeeping -- that's what I want to get better at.
