Yeah, got it.

A new series of videos on Drumeo on introduction to jazz drumming.  Today, the drummer conducting the video asserted that if you wanted to sound like a jazz drummer, you had to use the traditional grip with your left hand.  If you used the matched grip, you'd sound like yourself, trying to sound like a jazz drummer (but failing, although he left that unsaid).  

Later in the same video, he noted that he liked to hold his sticks at the end because it gave him the sound he wanted.  This, after several months of lessons that introduced terms to my drummer vocabulary like "fulcrum point", where you hold the sticks in matched grip, with the weight of the stick evenly divided front and back.  It leaves a couple of inches at the bottom of the stick sticking out, and the teachers on Drumeo up to this point assert that it is the right way to hold your drumsticks, period.  Or maybe just a semi-colon before another professional's opinion.
