About to finish section 3.2 (Rudiments) of the Drumeo Method and move on to 3.3 (Technique). A satisfying practice session tonight. Last week, flams; this week, drags. Playing drags at the designated speed is a little bit beyond me at the moment, but for now the important thing is to know what they are and how to execute them -- speed comes later with repetition and patience.
If there's one thing I wish I'd understood before beginning drum lessons at age 66, it was this: "Don't aim for mastery -- aim for curiosity." I've been enjoying myself ever since.
